Do I need a passport?
Yes, all U.S. citizens traveling to Mexico need a valid passport. Make sure your passport is up to date and has at least six months of validity beyond your planned return date. If you need to apply for a passport or renew your current passport, please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html/
When should I book my accommodation?
You can choose what works best for you! Room blocks at Villa Amor and Hotel Ysuri are available for March 26th–30th, but feel free to reserve fewer or extra nights. If you’re staying longer, Sayulita and the surrounding area have plenty to enjoy!
Which days should I book accommodation for?
That is totally up to you! The room blocks at Villa Amor and Hotel Ysuri are blocked for 4 nights (March 26th-30th), but you can absolutely reserve them for less or more time. The wedding will take place on Saturday, March 28th and there will be an optional welcome gathering with guests in the afternoon of Friday, March 27th. If you’d like to extend your stay, there is plenty to do in Sayulita and nearby cities!
How do I get to Sayulita?
The closest airport is Puerto Vallarta (PVR). From there, Sayulita is about a 45 minute drive. You can take a taxi or book a private shuttle. Let us know if you need help booking your airport pickup/drop off, but keep in mind that your hotel or villa will likely be able to schedule this for you.
What can I expect upon arrival at PVR?
1. After landing, you’ll go through immigration first and depending on how busy it is, you will either go through an e-gate or to a border agent. If you go through an e-gate, you will receive a receipt which serves as your tourist visa. You can just tuck this away with your passport for the remainder of the trip. If you go through a border agent, you will receive a stamp in your passport.
2. Next, you’ll proceed to customs and this is where the baggage carousels are. Once you have your bags, you’ll head towards the exit and have to scan your bags on a belt before leaving customs.
3. Then, you’ll walk through a corridor before exiting the terminal. Expect to be approached by timeshare and taxi reps asking you questions and trying to sell you things. We recommend politely declining them and continuing straight outside.
4. Transportation:
If you’ve pre-arranged transportation, your driver will usually be holding a sign with your name, but please be sure to thoroughly check the instructions sent by your villa/hotel.
If taking a taxi, go to the authorized taxi booth to pre-pay for your taxi to Sayulita and then head into line which is to the left after exiting the terminal.
If taking Uber, you need to turn left outside the terminal and cross the pedestrian bridge that goes to the other side of the street. This takes about 7 minutes. (Ubers are not allowed to pick up at the airport, this is why you must walk across the bridge. However, when flying out, you may call an uber from Sayulita to PVR and they will be able to drop you off outside the front door of the airport.)
Will there be transportation to the wedding ceremony?
Yes! We’ll arrange shuttles to and from Hacienda Antigua for guests staying in Sayulita. The Hacienda is about a 20 minute drive north of Sayulita in the neighboring town Lo De Marcos. Stay tuned for details.
How can I get around?
Sayulita is very much a walkable town, with bars, restaurants, and beaches all within walking distance of one another. For those who want to explore further, it’s easy to call a taxi or an Uber to get around. Another popular option is golf cart rentals.
What is the dress code for the wedding?
We’d love for our guests to join us in cocktail attire. Given the tropical setting, lightweight fabrics and vibrant colors are welcome. The ceremony and reception will be held outdoors on grass, so we recommend that women wear block heels, wedges, or flats. Please also note that it can cool down in the evening, so bringing a light layer is a good idea.
What will the weather be like?
You can expect moderately humid weather in March, with highs in the mid 80’s and lows in the high 50’s.
Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony and reception will be taking place outdoors on the expansive lawn and garden in front of the Hacienda. We recommend flat-soled shoes, block heels or wedges to avoid sinking into the grass. In the case of inclement weather, festivities will be moved indoors or under the palapa!
Do I need to exchange currency before I arrive?
The local currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN), but many places in Sayulita also accept U.S. dollars. We recommend exchanging some money before your trip or withdrawing pesos from ATMs in Sayulita. Credit cards are widely accepted, though some smaller shops may prefer cash. Be sure to let your bank know you will be out of the country.
Can I drink the tap water?
We don’t recommend drinking the tap water in Sayulita. Most hotels, rentals, and restaurants provide purified bottled water. We’ll also have plenty of bottled water available at both the Welcome Party and on the Wedding Day. Any alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at our events will be made with purified water/ice.
Do you have a registry?
We are not registered and kindly ask that you do not bring gifts. We’re incredibly grateful that our closest friends and family would join us in Mexico to celebrate our marriage!
